‘Tis the Season to Lose the Shoes!

Welcome to the Dog Days of summer. Everything slows down in our effort to savor the season and get every last drop of the warmth into our bones and spirit, storing it up for the cool weather to come. But let’s not even think about that right now, let’s just kick off our shoes, and go for some barefoot walking at the beaches along the Third Coast lakefront. There is a lot of controversy surrounding the “barefoot” walking/running idea- just because it is helpful to the Tarahumara people in Mexico http://therunningbug.co.uk/rbblogs/rickety-ragged-rank-runner/b/weblog/archive/2013/01/24/running-barefoot-tarahumara-tribe-runners.aspx, can this translate into a benefit for those of us living in concrete jungles? My research and personal experience tell.

Have Feet, Will Travel

In celebration of 10 years of Third Coast Reflexology, I took to the road and had a wonderful hiking adventure in the Foothills of the Pyrenees in the Catalonian region of Spain. I was quickly reminded of the importance of healthy feet as my pinky toe throbbed at the end of our first day on the trail– I thought I had sufficiently broken in my boots in advance of the trip, but the steep descents seemed to create a problem that I had not been able to anticipate walking on the FLAT streets of Chicago in the weeks before I left. While it was not the best way to begin.

I am continually struck by just how long it takes for an idea to evolve from concept to fruition, so it is with amazement and gratitude that I look back on this decade of growing my Reflexology practice from my original home office in the Ukrainian Village to my lovely suite in Lincoln Park. I began by practicing on the willing feet of my friends and family and after I completed my certification, I was ready to open my doors under the name PIED DOUX, which means, more or less “Sweet Feet” – an homage to the language I studied and love.
